Introduction

Ethiopia, a landlocked country, is located in northeast Africa and at the center of the Horn of Africa. The African Union (AU) is headquartered in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. The origins of the Ethiopian postal service can be dated back to the Middle Ages. In the eighteenth century, mail was mainly delivered by nephews, horses, and camels, and some Middle Eastern countries even trained falcons to deliver letters. At present, 1,139 post offices have been founded in the Ethiopian territory of 1.1 million square kilometers and 90 million people, with every post offices serving 79,016 persons on average.
