Introduction

Thailand Post (THP), was formerly part of the Thai Communications Authority, and until 2003 it became a state-owned company providing postal services in Thailand. THP was founded in 1883 and is the "mail department" of King Rama V. The first post office of THP is located in a building on the banks of the Chao Phraya River on the north side of the Ong-Ang Canal. In 1898, it was merged with the Telegraph Department and its name was changed to “Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications”. The department was abolished in 1977, and the country's mailing and telegrams were carried out by the new government-owned company, the Thai Communications Authority (CAT). In 2003, Communications Authority was divided into two companies by the government , “Thailand Post” and “CAT Telecom”.
